Symbols of a wealthy lifestyle or the need to display man’s dominance over wild animals, either way these animal trophies were found on the walls and floors throughout the Werribee Mansion. Beloved family pets had also been sent to the taxidermist and were encased in glass, a symbol of their love perhaps.

Great interp for symbols…there is still a lot of trophy hunting going on…which I have a difficult time with. Hunting for food and with equipment such as a bow seems like it shows a lot more about a man. Sorry…got on my soapbox…

Thank goodness this sort of thing is becoming unfashionable and in many cases illegal.
Like fur coats, I have never seen one that didn’t look better on the LIVE animal.
